Twitter just rolled out its latest profile redesign to the masses. It's pretty simple to update. But just in case you need a little help, here's how to switch over to the new photo-centric look.
If you haven't been prompted with the new design, you can grab it here. You'll be guided to upload a new profile photo, cover photo (a wide, background shot encompassing the width of the webpage), and to pin a tweet to your page. For optimum results, profile photos should measure 400 x 400 pixels and cover photos should be 1500 x 500 pixels. My original, lower resolution background photo was terribly fuzzy, so I decided to swap it out with a serene shot I'd taken on a bike ride. Twitter offers a great Flickr set of header photos you can download, though, if you're having trouble picking one of your own.
As for the tweet you decide to pin to the top, well, that's completely up to you. You can go for something silly or informative, a favorite read, or a favorite piece that you've written, for starters.
The redesign is decidedly Facebook-like in appearance. But it does offer a number of new (or better optimized) features, including a more personalized profile, and simpler options for sorting through the photos and videos you've uploaded to the service.
The new web profile also shows when you follow new people, inserting a truncated version of their profile into your Twitter timeline so others can easily follow, too. And you can view someone's Twitter timeline one of two ways: Just their tweets, or their tweets and @ replies (the latter was how profiles were automatically viewed in the past).
As with Facebook's profile redesign, with a little time and creativity you can have a lot of fun with these new features.
