We’ve seen a lot of strange motorcycles over the years, but the Johammer J1 is by far the strangest yet.

This Austrian electric wonder has styling inspired by a cuttlefish, or maybe Cookie Monster, and cool hub-center steering. We wanted to ask the guys at Johammer about the design, but no one replied to our inquiries.

The designer also 86'd the gauges in favor of a display in the mirrors. Propulsion comes from an 11 kilowatt hub-mounted motor. That’s all of 14 horsepower--in a bike that weighs 350 pounds. So it’s slow. Really slow. But people will have plenty of time to gawk as you roll past.

The J1.150 comes with an 8.3 kilowatt hour battery pack, which Johammer claims is good for just over 93 miles. The more expensive J1.200, which weighs 400 pounds, sports a 12.7 kWh pack with a range of 124 miles. Both models have regenerative braking and a single-stage “twist-and-go” gearbox.

The J1.150 is on sale for just under $32,000, and the J1.200 is selling for just under $35,000.
